Working with Plastic Materials
Thermoplastics & Elastomers
Thermoplastics constitute the largest assortment of resin formulations which when formulated are transformed into a variety of basic shapes. Although fillers can be employed, the thermoplastics are self-supporting homogeneous materials, which do not require reinforcing sub-straits. Among the properties of thermoplastics are resistances to impact, corrosion, mechanical stress, wear, etc. Because of the vast array of thermoplastics available, application parameters are used to select the best type or grade.
Urethane Elastomers are a group of thermosetting and thermoplastic materials often mistaken as rubber.
These materials are unique in that hardness and additives may be combined to acquire certain properties not possible in other non-metallic materials such as strength, cut and tear resistance, sound deadening properties, defense against abrasion and impact.

Unique challenges are faced with the milling and turning of both Thermoset and Thermoplastic materials. Although Thermosets are dimensionally stable, they are extremely abrasive toward standard tooling and create dust situations.
Thermoplastics, on the other hand, may develop machined-in stress, which could lead to premature part failure. In some cases, Thermoplastic parts may require annealing after machining.
SIP machining and inspection personnel are meticulous about craftsmanship. They have gone through extensive and rigorous training in various quality control standards, machining techniques, conventional and computer-aided drafting, and CNC Programming.
SIP inspection utilizes coordinate measuring machines, optical comparators, surface gages, mobile laptop computer-aided design and inspection, and countless varieties of micrometers, pin gages and calipers to ensure excellence and customer satisfaction.
Engineering / Design / CAD Department
Our design department offers the latest in computer-aided drafting & design (CAD) technology to provide viable, cost-effective parts and assemblies for fabrication.
Our designers can electronically perfect designs to ensure no time is wasted making a part that would not be functional. When the drawing is completed and approved by the quality control manager, files from the CAD system are transferred directly to the CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) system. Then specialized machinists make the actual part using CNC equipment interfaced with CAD/CAM technology.
